UX + SEO + AI Website Audit Checklist

How often should you run an SEO and AI-visibility audit?

Run a light check monthly, a structural check every quarter, and a full content-and-citation audit once a year.

Here’s the exact cadence and the free checklist to run it yourself.

🔁 Monthly Checkups
(Every 4 weeks)

  • Update sitemap and submit to Google Search Console.
  • Audit 404 errors and confirm redirect chains are clean.
  • Review Search Console coverage and indexing reports.
  • Check internal linking on newly published content.
  • Run AI mention queries (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude) for 5-10 core topics. Log citations and competitors cited.
  • Check Ahrefs Brand Radar (or equivalent) for AI impression and mention trends.

🗓️ Bi-Monthly Checkups
(Every ~8 weeks)

  • Review structured data and schema markup. Validate with Rich Results Test.
  • Run PageSpeed Insights on key pages (homepage, top 5 traffic pages).
  • Audit title tags: relevance, length (50-60 characters), uniqueness.
  • Audit meta descriptions: clarity, keyword inclusion, CTR optimization.
  • Check H1/H2 structure: question-based headings, keyword alignment.
  • Review alt text on all new images.
  • Spot-check FAQ sections on service pages for freshness and accuracy.

📊 Quarterly Checkups
(Every 3 months)

  • Evaluate keyword performance (rankings, click trends) vs. previous quarter.
  • Review Search Console Links report. Disavow toxic backlinks if necessary.
  • Analyze traffic and performance trends (QoQ, YoY, all-time).
  • Audit backlink profile in SEMrush or Ahrefs.
  • Review robots.txt and XML sitemap.
  • Re-run full technical SEO audit (Screaming Frog).
  • Run a topical authority gap analysis: which core topic clusters are underdeveloped?
  • Check competitor AI citation share: which domains are being cited more than you?
  • Evaluate E-E-A-T signals: Are author bio pages current? Are case studies up to date?

🗓️ Yearly Checkup
(Once a year or before a major site update)

  • Full SEO content audit (Step 1): re-crawl and refresh the master spreadsheet.
  • UX + IA review (Step 6): re-map site architecture against current content.
  • Content gaps update (Steps 3-5): refresh keyword and competitor analysis.
  • Clean up duplicate, outdated, or off-brand pages.
  • Full AI visibility audit (Step 7): re-run all 7.1-7.6 checks from scratch.
  • Mobile-first, accessibility, and current best practices review.
